Rameswaram Abaya Anjaneyar Temple (Vaal aruntha hanumar temple)

This temple is located near  the Bathrakalai amman Temple. (On the way to devashthana parking area) .There are 2 Hanuman Statues in this Temple, The main deity in this temple is Abaya Anjaneyar. There is a small statue near the fig tree which is named as vaal aruntha hanuman (Literally meant Tail less Hanuman) this statue is made up of sea rock, and is said to be suyambu (self originated). One can view the impressions of sea shells in this statue.

There is a Theertha (sacred pond) near this temple called by the name Hanuma theertham or Hanuma Kund .

Mythical story of Rameswaram Abaya Anjaneyar Temple

Rama came to Rameswaram for perform prayers and rituals to vanish his sin (Brahma hathi sin) of killing demon king and a Brahmin Ravana. To perform his rituals he need shiva linga, so he ordered hanuman to bring a shivalinga. Hanuman flew to Kailash to bring Shiva lingas. Though hanuman was late and the auspicious time for the rituals moves on, Rama had finished the rituals to the shiva linga created by sea sand by his wife Sitadevi, Hanuman brought shiva lingas from kailash and reached the sea shore , when he heard that  the rituals were completed, he got angry over Rama’s action and ask him perform pooja to the lingam that he brought.

After that he tried to remove the sand shiva linga by tying his tail over the sand shiva linga, when he pull it his tail torn apart and he fell down in the shore.

The Hanuman in this temple blessed the devotees without his charming Tail.
